Homemade Marshmallows by Hannah

Hannah decided she wanted to make homemade marshmallows. I have never made them or known anyone to make them.
They do taste like marshmallows but the texture is a little off. I'm not sure what went wrong or if she will try them again. It was a very interesting project though. She cut them out with cookie cutters and coated them with powdered sugar and sprinkles. Here is the recipe.

Combine 2 cups granulated sugar, three envelopes unflavored gelatin, and 1/8 teaspoon salt in a saucepan. Add 2 cups of water. Stir over medium-low heat until sugar dissolves. Heat for 3 minutes more, remove from stove, and stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla.

Pour mixture into large mixing bowl, tie back hair, then use an electric mixer to beat at high speed for 10 minutes or until mixture looks like thick marshmallow creme. Pour into buttered 13X9 pan. Let cool. Heat cookie cutter and/or scissors in hot water to cut the marshmallows with. Put powdered sugar in a ziploc and add marshmallows and shake to coat. Do a few at a time.

I have included a picture of the marshmallows and a picture of Esther and her project. Esther went and got into the hair bows and clipped them all over her head and made it look like a hat. She has a lot of fun around here and keeps us smiling.
